Compare companies when you're ready
Step 1
Who am I actually dealing with?
Most companies advertising car shipping do not own a truck, and the federal register will tell you which you are talking to in about thirty seconds.
Step 2
Is this price reasonable?
The company that gave you the number cannot answer this. A quote well under the published range is the one worth questioning, not the one worth taking.
Step 3
What am I agreeing to before I pay?
Deposits, cancellation fees and whether the price is binding are all decided by the paperwork, not the phone call.
Step 4
Something has already gone wrong.
What you can do, who to report it to, and the time limits that apply to a damage claim.
Why these are free, and what we get out of it
Haulwide is a comparison site. We do not move vehicles, we do not arrange transport, and no company can pay to appear in our rankings or to rank higher in them. That is what makes it possible to answer “is this price reasonable?” honestly — the companies running the other calculators in this category are the ones issuing the quotes.
What we get is that some people who use these checks later use the site to compare companies. That is the whole arrangement, and it is why none of these tools asks for a phone number first.
Figures come from published industry studies, named on the page with the date they were checked. Licensing facts come from the federal register and carry the date we read them. How we check things.
Questions people ask before they pay
Are these checks free?
Yes, all of them, and none asks for an account or a phone number. We are a comparison site rather than a shipping company, so there is no quote at the end of this that we are trying to sell you.
Do you see the price I was quoted?
No. The quote checker runs entirely in your browser, so the number you type never reaches us and is never stored. A price somebody has quoted you is exactly the sort of thing a lead buyer would pay for, and the tool is built so it cannot become one.
Check a quoteWill you tell me whether a company is a scam?
We will tell you what the federal register says, what the company's own paperwork says, and what has been reported and substantiated. We will not put the word scam next to a named business on the strength of a search, because getting that wrong is worse than being useless.
What should I check before paying a deposit?
Three things: that the company's operating authority is active with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, that the total price and pickup window are in writing, and whether the price is binding or an estimate that can change once a carrier is assigned.
Look up a companyI was quoted much less than everyone else. Is that good?
It is the quote most worth questioning. Most car shipping quotes are estimates rather than binding prices, and a figure no carrier will accept tends to be revised upward once your car is booked and a deposit is paid.
