Prices move with the season
No source publishes monthly prices for this service, so this is what the studies say about timing.
Summer moving season and the holidays tighten truck space, while mid-January to February is usually the quietest stretch of the year.
Direct Connect Auto Transport reports 2026 versus 2025 running 3% to 8% higher.

Insurance and safety
Carriers must carry liability insurance
Most for-hire interstate carriers must file at least $750,000 in liability coverage with the FMCSA. Cargo coverage for the cars on the truck is set by the carrier, so ask for the certificate.

Frequently asked questions
What is door-to-door car shipping?
The driver picks up your car at the address you choose and delivers it to your destination address, without a terminal in between.
Will the truck come right to my door?
Whenever it can safely do so. If your street is narrow, gated or has low trees or wires, the driver will ask to meet at a nearby open lot.
Is door-to-door shipping standard?
Yes. Most car shipping companies quote door-to-door service by default. Ask if you're unsure.
Does door-to-door shipping cost more?
Usually not. Most quotes already include it. Very rural addresses far from main highways can cost more because the driver travels further off route.
What affects the costIs terminal-to-terminal shipping cheaper?
Sometimes slightly, but storage fees and two trips to the terminal often cancel out the savings, and terminals are less common than they used to be.
Can I get an exact pickup time?
Most shipments use a pickup window of a few days. The driver calls ahead to agree a time once they are close. Expedited service can narrow the window.
