The basics

  • What is multi-car shipping?

Shipping two or more vehicles as one booking on the same truck, usually with a single pickup and delivery.

  • How many cars can one truck carry?

A typical open carrier holds about 7 to 10 vehicles, depending on their size and weight. Enclosed trailers usually carry fewer.

  • Will my cars travel on the same truck?

Usually, but not always. Ask the company to confirm, especially for large orders or busy seasons.

Costs and pricing

  • How much does it cost to ship two cars?

Published studies put one standard car at about $875–$2,365 for a 1,250-mile trip, so two cost up to twice that. Many companies price a shared booking lower per car, so ask each one for its multi-car rate.

  • Is it cheaper to ship multiple cars at once?

Usually, per car. Shared pickup, delivery and dispatch costs are spread across the vehicles.

Pickup and delivery

  • Can the cars be picked up from different addresses?

Sometimes, if the addresses are close and on the carrier's route. Each extra stop can add to the price.

  • Can each car have a different pickup date?

Then it's usually better to book them separately, since a multi-car booking shares one pickup window.

  • Can I ship some cars open and one enclosed?

Not on the same truck. Book the enclosed car separately and the others together.

Situations

  • Do dealers use multi-car shipping?

Yes. Dealers regularly move inventory between lots, auctions and customers in shared loads.

  • Can I ship a motorcycle with my car?

Many carriers can, with the motorcycle secured on its own spot. Mention it when you book.

Insurance and preparation

  • Are all my cars insured during shipping?

Carrier cargo coverage applies, but may be capped per load. Ask for the certificate and check the limit covers every vehicle.

  • How do I prepare several cars for shipping?

Prepare each one the same way: wash it, photograph every side, remove personal items and toll tags and keep about a quarter tank of fuel.
